Welcome to Cape Winelands Guest House

A Cape winelands guest house in the heart of Paarl, Roggeland is an exclusive Country Guest House, offering a warm welcome with true Cape hospitality in a tranquil wine country atmosphere. Transformed into a sanctuary of relaxation and great comfort, the visitor can expect to be pampered in this haven encircled by the natural beauty of the Cape winelands and peaceful splendour.

An eighteenth-century Cape Dutch masterpiece, the farmhouse of Roggeland is a national monument, featuring a variety of original
features, exposed Yellowood beam and reed ceilings, thatch, antique furniture and art.

Surrounded by the blue purple Drakenstein Mountains, this Paarl guest house is an ideal country setting to relax and unwind with spectacular vistas of majestic mountains.

Playing a game of golf, viewing a flock of flamingoes or pelicans at the world acclaimed bird sanctuary, horse riding on a scenic trail… these are just some of our leisure options.

  • Catch a tan next to the pool, visit the nearby rose farms or stroll through Paarl – one of the oldest towns in South Africa – with its wealth of historic buildings and glistening granite mountain.
  • Spend a day in the mountains swimming in clear mountain water rock pools and relaxing with a picnic basket.
  • Try fly or fresh water fishing in one of the numerous pristine fishing spots in the mountains that are in close proximity to the Guest House or launch a canoe on the scenic Breede River.
  • Drive to the Bushman paintings on the West Coast.
  • Go horse riding through the fynbos and vineyards in the mountains either in the early morning or having sundowners during the ride in the evening.
  • Visit the West Coast with its unspoilt natural beauty highlighted by its display of flowers and birdlife in the West Coast National reserve and enjoy a seafood barbeque on the beach.

Roggeland Rooms and Cuisine

A choice of superior or standard rooms give you the option of a large room with bath and freestanding shower or a smaller room with bath and shower combination. Each of the bedrooms has a unique character and charm, fully appointed with a large double bed, or optional twin beds and en-suite bathrooms. All have ‘riempie’ reed or yellowood ceilings and deep casement windows with wooden shutters, all features of traditional Cape architecture.

Handmade linen, down duvets, ceiling fans, fresh flowers and handmade soaps all conspire to bring about a pleasant and restful stay. Rise as early or as late as you please to your choice of fresh filter coffee or tea brought to your room.

No TV or mini bar facilities are available in the rooms.

Voted amongst the top 100 restaurants in 2004 by Wine Magazine, one of the highlights of your stay at Roggeland will be the food. A pre-dinner selection of wines to taste is served under the trees and is an opportunity to mingle with other guests. Take time to informally chat about Roggeland and the exquisite surroundings with family members and staff.

The dining room, originally the old kitchen of the manor house, still has the original oven and fireplace which form part of the character and charm of the homestead. Dinner is a four course, candle lit affair, with carefully selected wines with each course and changes each evening for the duration of your stay.

Our menus are inspired by the regional produce of Paarl and vegetables and herbs are grown in Roggeland’s own gardens. Varied, balanced, never heavy, our country cuisine contributes, along with the sunshine, the fresh mountain air, historic setting and general serenity, to a feeling of profound well-being. Special dietary requirements can also be catered for.

The menu de gustation, with specially selected wines to partner each dish, varies daily.
